鈥楩ood Flix Film Festival鈥 was created as part of an initiative of the City鈥檚 Commission on Aging
Ivy Tech is launching a 鈥淔ood Flix Film Festival鈥 next spring in effort to connect youth and elderly populations in the community. 鈥淔ood Flix鈥 was created as part of an initiative of the City of Bloomington鈥檚 Commission on Aging. The Commission on Aging encourages institutions in the community to independently develop creative programming for joining youth and elderly populations.
鈥淔ood Flix鈥 is a contest for amateur filmmakers, focusing on intergenerational relationships sharing in a culinary activity. Submissions must involve a minimum of two people separated in age with at least one generation in-between, include a food-related activity that reflects family or cultural heritage, be largely unscripted and no longer than 30 minutes. Film submission deadline is February 20, 2012.
The film contest will take place during the Creative Aging Festival in May 2012, where entries will be judged and prizes will be awarded based upon artistic quality, interactive engagement, educational value and entertainment value. The grand prize includes receiving two free classes from Ivy Tech鈥檚 Center for Lifelong Learning, a $150 gift certificate to Best Buy, and film aired on local CATS television. Second and third place prizes will be awarded.
The college is also participating in the Creative Aging Festival through separate activities coordinated by its Center for Lifelong Learning. The Center is sponsoring the May 16 Creative Aging Symposium. The Center for Lifelong Learning will coordinate noncredit art classes, gallery exhibits and host related noncredit classes for seniors鈥揵oth in Bloomington (mostly at the Ivy Tech John Waldron Arts Center) and at Burton Kimble Farms in Orleans, Ind.
The Creative Aging Festival is a month-long celebration honoring our elders and their creative contributions to our community.
