Position Summary
The Automotive Service Writer serves as the primary point of contact between students, faculty, and customers for Ivy Tech’s Automotive Educational Program. This position supports instructional goals by managing service orders of community partner organization, coordinating community partner organization vehicle service, maintaining
accurate records, and fostering a professional shop environment that reflects real-world industry practices. The Service Writer ensures that program operations simulate dealership and independent shop standards, providing students with practical learning experience.

Key Responsibilities
• Greet and assisting customers, students, and faculty with professionalism andĚýexcellent customer service.
• Schedule, write, review, and manage standard maintenance services for partnerĚýorganization vehicles to be serviced within the program.
• Communicate clearly between customers, students, and instructors regardingĚývehicle status, services needed, and timeline of services.
• Maintain accurate service documentation, service histories, and customer records.
• Coordinate workflow between the faculty/staff, students, and automotive lab,Ěýensuring efficient scheduling of vehicles for student learning activities.
• Provide students with training and guidance on industry-standard service writingĚýpractices, customer interaction, and shop management.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with safety protocols, shop policies, and programĚýprocedures.
• Manage parts ordering, invoicing, and cost tracking in coordination with programĚýfaculty.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and professional service officeĚý
environment.
• Support program events, advisory board activities, and community engagementĚýinitiatives.

Preferred Qualifications
• ASE Certification(s) in Service Consultant, Automotive Parts or related areas.
• Previous experience in an educational or training environment.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and support students in a learning setting.
• Familiarity with dealership and independent shop operations.
Working Conditions
• Position requires work in both an office and automotive shop environment.
• May involve occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs.), extended periods of standing, andĚýexposure to shop noise and equipment.

Compensation:$25.00-29.00/hr

Minimum Qualifications
• Education: A high school diploma or GED is typically the minimum requirement with a minimum or 2 years of experience in the automotive industry or
• Possess an associate’s degree in automotive technology being beneficial andĚýpreferred.
• Experience: Prior experience in automotive maintenance, customer service, or as aĚýtechnician can be helpful.
